Lesson 5- Area and Perimeter relationship?

First try this game to check your understanding of area and perimeter.  Make sure you get them all right before you move on.  See me if you are getting stuck.

Lesson five will be looking at both area and perimeter together.  Open up a Geoboard by clicking on the button below. Make rectangles with the elastic bands and record your results in the spreadsheet below.  The spreadsheet will automatically give you the perimeter and area (you will only need to enter the rectangles width and height).

Using P=20units make as many different rectangles as you can.

Enter the different widths and heights into the spreadsheet.

What do you notice about the area?

Type a response below in the comments box with your name, read other members comments and make a positive reply to someone.

Print off your spreadsheet and stick it into your maths book.

If you finish quickly try looking at what happens when the value of the width and height get closer?  Try the challenge!  Watch the first video, have a go and then watch the video with the answer.
