Lesson 6- Exploring efficient ways to calculate area and perimeter

 

Students will play games that encourage them to think about more efficient ways to calculate area and perimeter.   Collaborative work is encouraged to find more efficient ways to make calculations through the use of comments boxes.

ACMMG109 Calculate perimeter and are of rectangles using familiar metric units

Australian Curriculum proficiencies focused on in this lesson is reasoning.  Students are asked to identify patterns in number sentences calculating area and perimeter and to find more efficient strategies to make these calculations (ACARA, 2015).
