This lesson introduces the concept of perimeter.  Activities are set up to enable students to visualise perimeter with a video and also physical activities.  As discussed in (Simeon et al, 2011, p. 609) "Students can confuse the terms perimeter and area", "Providing students with the opportunity to investigate the meaning of the word 'perimeter'will assist them in discrimnating between the two measures".  Students have been encouraged to use online searches to discover the meaning of 'Peri" and 'Meter'.

Proficiency Strand

Students are building on their understanding of measurement by making connections with perimeter in real life contexts.  Group discussion will allow students to describe perimeter.
