Lesson Six-Calculating Area  and Perimeter Quickly

Play game 1 below.  Try five rectangle shapes and then five compound shapes.

Write a comment below about how you could find the area of a shape quickly without counting all the squares.  Think about our previous work on rows and columns.

Remember to put your name on the comment.

Use the geoboard to make 5 different rectangles. I would like to see you write the answer with your working out in your maths book.  For example write Perimeter = 2+3+2+3  Having trouble ask a classmate for help.   Explain any patterns you see in your answers to calculate the perimeter of a rectangle.  Write your explanation in your maths book.  How could we shorten our answer and work out perimeter more quickly.

Try the challenge below if you have time or try the party designer game which will help with your project
